Raymond P. Ewing

Raymond P. Ewing is an industry leader and educational founder of the field of issues management. Mr. Ewing led the field from his post as director of strategic planning and issues management at Allstate Insurance. His work with the Allstate futurist study center provided him with leadership in the newly emerging field. Mr. Ewing also created the first course in issues management at Northwestern University as the first industry adjunct professor teaching public relations in the Medill School of Journalism. He is coeditor of the Handbook of Communications in Corporate Restructuring and Takeovers with Clarke L. Caywood (1992) and author of Managing the New Bottom Line: Issues Management for Senior Executives (1987). He is also the author of a book on his favorite author, Mark Twain--Mark Twain's Steamboat Years: The Years of Command. In retirement, he has taken up sculpting and shows his work frequently. His quote in a 2011 news interview about his art is a strong representation of his careers and philosophy: ”We don't take ourselves seriously,” he said. ”But we take sculpting seriously.”
