Edward Barbini

Edward Barbini is vice president of external relations for IBM, overseeing all of IBM's strategies and dealings with media, analysts and key influencers worldwide, as well as being actively involved in all corporate external relations in diverse fields such as shareholder communications. He also oversees IBM’s strategy and execution of social media communications.

He is an 18-year veteran of IBM and has worked in a variety of IBM's operating units, with positions including head of communications and public relations for IBM's software, systems and personal computer divisions, where he has been responsible for overseeing media relations, executive and internal communications and IT analyst relations. IBM has been honored with the top honors in communications and public relations—including the Silver Anvil and SABRE awards—during his tenure as leader of global external relations.

He is a member of IBM's Integration and Values Team, comprising IBM’s top leadership, and counsels IBM's global clients on crisis communications and external relations issues.

Prior to joining IBM, Ed worked as a reporter for the Newhouse News Service and in government, where he worked in the press offices of New York City mayors, Edward I. Koch and David Dinkins, and served as press secretary to the New York State attorney general.  He also oversaw the media relations efforts for the National Association of Attorneys General during his government work. He earned BA and MS degrees from Columbia University.
