Sports public relations is one of the fastest growing segments of the PR industry. From title sponsorship (i.e. college’s Tostitos Fiesta Bowl) to event or cause marketing, it is crucial that PR be integrated with the marketing strategies. Athlete spokesperson sponsorship can have pitfalls as in the case of Tiger Woods. Signage and logo placement are pervasive means of associating a corporation’s name with a company. Media relations is also an important segment in this industry, and even more so with social media. The case study is the launch of Harbor Shores Golf Course in Benton Harbor, Michigan, which changed the the economically depressed area into a national sensation.
