Chapter 21: Issues Management Methods for Reputational Management

Issues management focuses on public policy research, foresight and planning for an organization. It differs from business strategic planning in that it is outside-in planning, rather than inside-out planning. The steps of the issues management process can be considered 1.) Issue identification and analysis, 2.) Strategic decision making and action, and 3.) Evaluation. The case study is of Swiss Re, a leading global reinsurer. In this world of globalization of economies and industries, rapid change in markets and in consumer behavior, and increasing instability of currencies, the importance of issues management to corporations and organizations is clear.
