Chapter 18: Non-Governmental Organizations: Solving Society's Problems
There are more than 1.5 million non-profit companies registered in the U.S. In this chapter, Ray Boyer focuses on public relations for the NGOs that are heavily dependent on fundraising and that are often local or regional in scope. The main audiences of the NGO are those on the receiving end and those on the donating or supporting end. Issues that are addressed include governmental regulations, the link with marketing, budgeting, using social media, dealing with the media and many useful tactics for NGOs of all types. Governor Scott McCallum, CEO and President of Aidmatrix Foundation provides several cases illustrating their work using supply chain technology to meet disaster need, supply free clinics and food banks. The first case regards savings in the cost of supplies for free clinics. The second treats disaster relief in Haiti with its communications implications. The North Dakota flooding case and Children International case are also featured.
